The Executive is dedicated to making Northern Ireland a better place to live, work, learn and grow. In the Programme for Government, it has committed to building a peaceful, fair and prosperous society in Northern Ireland, with respect for the rule of law and where everyone can enjoy a better quality of life now and in years to come.
To deliver on this commitment, it needs the right infrastructure to grow the economy - the top priority over the lifetime of the Programme for Government. The right infrastructure will also support positive social change, enhance our environment and help them to deliver better public services for all.
Over the next three years, around £6 billion of new infrastructure will be delivered – and approaching £20 billion in the next 10 years – to address a legacy of underinvestment in the past.
The Investment Strategy 2008-2018 sets out the framework with which the Executive will create a sustainable 21st century infrastructure. It identifies priority areas for investment in the years ahead and is intended to assist government and private sector partners to plan ahead for the challenge of delivering the largest ever investment programme here. Delivery plans are currently being finalised to provide more detail on the implementation of this Strategy; these plans will be published before the 31st March 2008.
