File formats
Some links on the SIB website open documents or files in different formats. These are:
- Adobe Portable Document Format (.pdf)
- Microsoft Word (.doc)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt and pps)
- Windows Media Video (.wmv)
Depending on your computer operating system you may need to download or install applications so that you can view these files.
PDF Files (.pdf)
To open a PDF file you can:
- Download “Acrobat Reader” and install it onto your computer (you may find that it or something similar is already installed). The program is available free of charge from the Adobe Acrobat site.

- Use the online PDF conversion tool also available at the Adobe Acrobat website to convert the file to another format.

You can configure your web browser to open PDF files either within the browser window or in a separate Adobe Acrobat window. There are detailed instructions on the Acrobat website on how to do so for different browsers.

Microsoft Word Files (.doc)
You may already have Microsoft Word installed. Word files can also be loaded by other word processing applications and browser plugins. Otherwise you can view, print and copy Word documents, even if you don't have Microsoft Word installed, with a free viewer from Microsoft.

Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt and pps)
Your computer may already be configured to display PowerPoint presentations. If not, the free PowerPoint Viewer 2003 from Microsoft lets you view full-featured presentations created in PowerPoint 97 and later versions.

Windows Media Video Files (.wmv)
Window Media Video files can be played by many video applications. A free Windows Media Player is available for different versions of Microsoft Windows and the Macintosh.
