Community Regeneration

Our team encourages dynamic social partnerships as an exciting away to join up and bring to life the key policy areas outlined in the Programme for Government Opens new window. Effective use of public investment can lever significant private sector investment and involvement that can benefit areas of high social need.

Successful delivery requires a proactive, ‘hands on’ approach and meaningful engagement with a wide range of stakeholders.  Over the last year, we have increasingly placed emphasis on stakeholder engagement and building stronger relationships with communities.

Our Regeneration Team includes the former Chief Executives of Groundwork NI and Laganside Corporation – Advisers with unrivalled experience in community engagement and regeneration issues.

The team works with stakeholders to:

  • evaluate regeneration opportunities, particularly the catalytic effect of public sector investment in deprived areas;
  • develop strategies to lever in additional investment and maintain regeneration momentum;
  • engage effectively with local communities to secure their input and buy-in to local investment and regeneration schemes;
  • co-ordinate action at a local level. This expertise includes programme management skills, business case development, and dealing with NI/UK and RoI departments and EU directorates and initiatives;
  • secure skills transfer, capacity building and network development.
         

SIB currently supports Government Departments, local authorities and community partnerships in a range of regeneration initiatives including sites at:

  • Maze/Long Kesh, Lisburn
  • Crumlin Road Gaol, Belfast
  • Albert Basin, Newry.  

In North and West Belfast, our team is working with a diverse range of organisations to encourage more private sector interest and investment within those areas.

In East Belfast we were delighted when the Connswater Community Greenway was selected as one of only three projects in the UK to receive Big Lottery Living Landmark grant support of some £23 million. This community led project will create a linear riverside park through East Belfast that will benefit over 48,000 people, improving their living environment, providing opportunities for leisure and recreation and acting as a catalyst for further investment. SIB advisers continue to work closely with the project team, bringing the necessary experience in delivery and technical expertise and facilitating a joined up implementation strategy.
