Investment in health infrastructure will deliver modern facilities that provide the best primary, secondary, specialist and community and mental health care, as well as state-of-the-art medical equipment.
SIB is supporting the Northern Ireland Executive in their ambitions to:
- build a robust and dynamic health and social care system. Investing in Primary and Community Care helps to provide more treatment and care closer to where people live and work.
- modernise our emergency services with a view to responding to 75% of life-threatening emergency calls within 8 minutes.
- develop a core of acute hospitals which will deliver the highest quality patient care ensuring that most people will have access to acute services, emergency care and consultant-led maternity services within 45 minutes.
Investment Strategy Milestones
- a new local enhanced hospital at Downpatrick by 2009;
- a new mental health crisis centre at Gransha by 2010;
- first phase of Ulster Hospital redevelopment complete by 2010;
- opening five new Health and care centres by 2011 in Andersonstown, Castlereagh, Shankill, Grove (Shore Rd), and Portadown;
- a new acute hospital serving the South West by 2012;
- a new local enhanced hospital in Omagh by 2013.
